Niaz Banaei, MD

Clinical Advisor

Dr. Niaz Banaei is Assistant Professor of Pathology and Medicine (Infectious Diseases) at the Stanford University Medical Center, and he also serves as the Director of Clinical Microbiology at Stanford University. His clinical focus is on clinical laboratory techniques, clinical pathology, and mycobacterium infections. Dr. Banaei has obtained his MD at Stanford University, his board certification in Clinical Pathology from the American Board of Pathology, his internship and residency from UCSF Departments of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and his fellowship from New York University. His current research and scholarly interests lie in the development and implementation of rapid diagnostic assays for the detection, identification, and susceptibility testing of clinically important mycobacteria, and in understanding the role of M. tuberculosis lipoproteins in the pathogenesis of tuberculosis. Dr. Banaei has numerous publications focused on technologies and assays for detection of infection, screening of infectious diseases, treatment methods, and faster detection technologies, among many others.
